The Philadelphia Story

by Philip Barry

Divorced from C.J. Dexter, Tracy Lord, the uninhibited and spoiled daughter of the privileged ‘Philadelphia Lords’, is engaged to nouveau riche businessman and aspiring politician George Kittredge.

The day before the wedding, three unexpected guests show up at the Lord mansion: Mike Connor, Elizabeth Imbrie, reporters from a gossip magazine, and C.J. Dexter himself.

Dexter, an employee of the tabloid Spy magazine, made a deal with its publisher and editor Sidney Kidd to get a story on Tracy's wedding in return for Kidd not publishing a salacious story about Tracy's father, Seth Lord.

Tracy finds herself attracted to Connor and takes a moonlit dip with him, only to run into Dexter and Kittredge on the way back. The next morning her fiancés smug attitude enrages her and she calls of the engagement. Connor offers to marry her, but she turns him down and remarries Dexter, to the satisfaction of everyone.
